The Beginning of a Movement

Monday night’s event at the University of Wisconsin at Madison was the start of a crucial, nationwide movement. Panelists and attendees from all walks of life and political flavors met for an evening of open-minded discussion about the wars, electoral reform, and the desire to attain better representation for the people.

Free and Equal would like to thank all the panelists, the moderator, guests, and everyone who worked behind the scenes to make this event happen. As you know, we almost did not have an event. The Memorial Union failed to notify UW Madison organizers about the booking procedures, and university officials cancelled the facility booking mere days before the event. In the end, it all worked out thanks to last-minute advocacy by our university sponsor, the Havens Center.

Tobin to Appear on Freedom Watch with Judge Andrew Napolitano and Cindy Sheehan’s Soapbox

Free & Equal Founder and CEO Christina Tobin will be interviewed this weekend by Cindy Sheehan for her podcast Cindy Sheehan’s Soapbox. That interview will be available at http://www.cindysheehanssoapbox.com/archivesPage.html on Sunday, May 2.

Christina is also scheduled to be interviewed by Judge Andrew Napolitano on Freedom Watch on FOX on Tuesday, May 4. The episode will be archived on http://freedomwatchonfox.com later that day.

An All-Partisan Senate Debate for Pennsylvania Voters

Kudos to Fabiola Gergerich for organizing the Southwestern Pennsylvania Senate Debate on Saturday, April 24! It was an all-partisan debate for Pennsylvania’s open U.S. Senate seat held at Robert Morris University. Each candidate had the opportunity to answer questions submitted by the citizens of Pennsylvania.

The invitation was extended to all known candidates regardless of party affiliation. Participating candidates included Doug Jamison (L), Peg Luksik (R), John Kensinger (R), Mel Packer (G), Joe Vodvarka (D), and Mike Yilit (I).

Incumbent Arlen Specter (D), Joe Sestak (D), and Pat Toomey (R) declined the invitation.

The three candidates who chose not to participate in the debate unfortunately missed the opportunity to share their message with the people of Southwestern Pennsylvania. The caliber of questions submitted by Pennsylvanians and the professionalism of the debate rivaled any TV debate. Viewers of the debate will see democracy at its best.
