National Taxpayers United of Illinois to hold Champaign news conference today to oppose 67% Income Tax Increase.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Jim Tobin, the president of National Taxpayers United of Illinois (NTUI), Illinois’ largest taxpayer organization, will hold a news conference in Champaign today, Thursday, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m. The news conference will be at the Champaign Public Library, Robeson Pavilion Room A and B, 200 W. Green Street.

Tobin will discuss the results of a new study by pension researcher Bill Zettler, which shows that the lavish, gold-plated pensions received by retired government employees are bankrupting state pension funds — the real reason Gov. Patrick Quinn (D) wants to raise the state income tax, in order to pump more taxpayer dollars into these floundering pension funds.

Tobin will compare these pension payments with the median income of local workers in the private sector, and show that government employee pension payments exceed wages in the private sector. He also will discuss reforms to the state pension funds that would make tax increases and service cuts unnecessary.

Christina Tobin, Jim’s daughter and President of The Free and Equal Elections Foundation, will be speaking in support of a bill to allow all Illinois candidates the option of a $500 fee to get on the ballot, in lieu of signature collection. She is also scheduled to speak about the bill to the Chicago Bar Association for Electoral Reform.

What I’ve Seen in Illinois

I’ve spent the last month in my home state of Illinois, fighting for 15 candidates from all ballot-qualified parties who have been caught up in the insane and anti-democratic petition objection process. Illinois is one of three states that allow any voter to object to the signatures submitted by candidates to gain a spot on [...]
